About Timo Tolvanen
I was born in Finland (hence the funny name) but have lived most of my life in Sydney, Australia. Since my teen years I have been engrossed with music and guitars. I have always been a "tinkerer" and have spent many hours experimenting with a variety of wirings, pickup combinations, switches, pots, nuts, bridges etc. I have owned and still own some beautiful guitars and I also bought some
really ordinary ones when I was younger. I also love working with wood and come from a long line of carpenters and cabinet makers. My father, grandfather and great grandfather were all timber workers.
I have played in bands ranging from rock to pop to country to folk and have had some success in the music industry over the years. I was signed to a major publisher when I was younger. Indeed, for most of the 90s I was signed to a record label. I am currently playing in an acoustic roots/country trio called Strum. Recently we have received a number of nominations ranging from best band to best instrumental to best vocalist - 9 in total. Amongst others, we were up against Tommy Emmanuel in three of the awards ceremonies with our instrumental rendition of the Allman Bros classic, "Jessica".
I am also a record producer with my own (small but very cool :)) studio.
The reason I'm giving you a bit of a rundown on my musical career isn't to feed my ego - at least I hope it's not! I'm simply trying to point out that I am a working guitarist who builds guitars from a player's perspective. I have a pretty good idea what guitarists are looking for in their instruments because I have spent such a long time talking to them and getting them to play my prototypes. Please note that I spend a lot of time with each instrument after it is completed to ensure that it is just right. I would not sell you a guitar that I wouldn't personally use either at a gig or in the studio.
So, have a good look at what I currently have available and have a listen to the sound samples.
